MIAMI UNIVERSITY COURSEWORK 2025
The Branding Project
The Branding Project was assigned to me as a part of my Miami University coursework. The goal of this project was to develop a fictional brand, including attributes such as a logo, business card, brand guidelines, and more.
For my project, I developed the brand Medusa, a luxury spa.
This project was made up of many different components. By the end of this project, I had successfully created a unique logo, brand guidelines, a business card, and many mockups.
PROCESS
IDEATION AND ITERATION
At the beginning of the Branding Project, we were told to choose an animal we found intriguing with no further context. I chose a jellyfish because I am drawn to their flowy state and unique form. From here, we were told to develop a logo and company around the animal we chose.
In the first stages of my process, I developed over 80 sketches and 50 iterations of my logo digitally. I struggled with finding a logo that really spoke to me. However, when completing the 50 digital logos, I found a few that stuck out to me and continued to explore these logos.

finalizing and reflecting
I drew a jellyfish in Procreate and used it for my digital logos. I played around with fonts, colors, opacity, and carriers before finally landing on the logo seen here.
I took away parts of the calligraphic letters in order to mimic the form and flow of the jellyfish. I then made the tentacles of the jellyfish intertwine with my text, even mocking some parts of the letters themselves.
During this project, I created my first ‘Brand Guidelines’ document. These guidelines include color, typography, ways to use the logo, things to avoid, mockups, and more.
Overall, this was one of the projects I struggled with most, but in the end, I am proud of how much time and effort I put into this project, and I am happy with the final outcome.
